At present, Oct 2010, we’re 34 strong and for the first time for a couple of years we’ve got more guys (23) than girls (11) covering the whole Explorer age range from some newly arrived ex-Scouts to some oldies who are starting a local branch of the Scout Network called the Clangers for themselves and the other local Explorer Units when they turn 18.

We’ve got 3 leaders, Dave who started it all in 2002 as one of the earliest Explorer Units to be up and running, and two former Badger Hill Scouts, Mat Shapland who joined in 2008 and Ben Herridge who joined us in summer 2009

This site is partly general stuff about Explorers and partly the story of what we’ve done recently, what we’re doing now, and what we’d like to be doing in the future.

To contact us, please email webmaster@brocks-explorers.org.uk and we’ll get back to you.

Welcome to Brocks website

Our official name is Brocks Explorer Scout Unit, or Brocks E.S.U. for short. If you didn’t know, “Brock” is a traditional country name for an older, wiser, craftier Badger which sums up Brocks Explorers quite neatly. No need to dwell on that point.....

We’ve been going since 2002 when we started with 9 Explorers and 1 leader. We’re partnered with Badger Hill Scout group and use their HQ and some of their kit

The photo above was taken by one or our original Explorers Tammy, who is now a professional photographer, at our recent “Wine’n’Dine” to celebrate our 8th birthday. Thanks again Tammy for another brilliant set of photos.

We’re gradually moving most of our photos to Flickr http://www.flickr.com/photos/40881320@N04/sets/ if you want a look at what we get up to (or  at least the pre-watershed stuff!)

The Legal Stuff

Lucy, on the left here, is at the forefront of the Scout Association publicity surrounding the 2009 census figures which showed a major increase in girls in Scouting, particularly in Explorers, and particularly in Bedfordshire. Lucy was picked to accompany the former Chief Scout, Peter Duncan, doing the rounds of TV and Radio interviews on Monday 27 April and also featured in the publicity surrounding the handover to Bear Grylls. She and Andrew, another of our YSPs, knew that he was the new Chief Scout about 6 weeks before the announcement but were sworn to secrecy :-(
